The final day of round robin action kicks off at the 4 Nations Face-Off with a matinee clash between Canada (1-1-0, 2 points) and Finland (1-1-0, 2 points). Both teams have beaten Sweden in overtime and lost to the United States in regulation. How they settle their match this afternoon will determine who goes to the final game on Thursday! After a superb first few days of games in Montreal, the festivities head to Boston for the remainder of the event.
Today’s broadcast begins at 11 a.m. MT on Sportsnet.

Canada

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff
Sam Reinhart [13] – Connor McDavid [97] – Mitch Marner [16]
Sidney Crosby [87] – Nathan MacKinnon [29] – Mark Stone [61]
Brad Marchand [63] – Sam Bennett [9] – Seth Jarvis [24]
Brandon Hagel [38] – Anthony Cirelli [71] – Brayden Point [21]
Devon Toews [5] – Cale Makar [8]
Josh Morrissey [44] – Colton Parayko [55]
Travis Sanheim [6] – Drew Doughty [89]
Jordan Binnington [50] is expected to start in net, backed up by Adin Hill [33]. The projected extras for Canada are Sam Montembeault and Travis Konecny. Cale Makar missed Saturday’s game due to illness, so Thomas Harley played (and did pretty well). If Makar’s available, though, he’ll be playing and bump out Harley.
If Canada wins in regulation, they get to five points and clinch a spot in the final no matter what happens in the Sweden/USA game. If they win in overtime, they’ll need Sweden to lose (or win in overtime) to reach the final.
Canada has played pretty well so far, but they’ve also made enough mistakes that both of their games were pretty close. They let Sweden back into their first game after a hot start, and they didn’t get the goaltending (or traffic in front of their other goalie) they needed against the United States.

Finland

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Artturi Lehkonen [62] – Aleksander Barkov [16] – Mikko Rantanen [96]
Roope Hintz [24] – Sebastian Aho [20] – Mikael Granlund [64]
Eetu Luustarinen [27] – Anton Lundell [15] – Patrik Laine [92]
Teuvo Teravainen [86] – Erik Haula [56] – Kaapo Kakko [84]
Niko Mikkola [77] – Esa Lindell [23]
Urho Vaakanainen [18] – Nikolas Matinpalo [33]
Olli Maatta [3] – Henri Jokiharju [10]
Kevin Lankinen [32] is expected to start, backed up by Juuse Saros [74]. Their projected extras are Ukka-Pekka Luukkonen, Juuso Valimaki and Joel Armia.
It’s incredibly impressive that Finland is master of their own destiny heading into the final day of round robin play at this event. If they beat Canada in regulation, they’re in the final. If they beat Canada in overtime, they need Sweden to lose or win in overtime. (It’s the same scenario that Canada is facing: both teams beat Sweden, so they both hold the tiebreaker if they finish with the same number of points.)
