After their win over Canada on Saturday night, the United States (2-0-0, 6 points) is heading into the final day of round robin action with their spot in the final game assured. So they face Sweden (0-0-2, 2 points), who need to win and get help to qualify for the final themselves. Can a desperate Swedish side beat the American juggernaut?
Tonight’s broadcast begins at 6 p.m. MT on Sportsnet.

United States

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff
Brady Tkachuk [7] – Jack Eichel [9] – Chris Kreider [20]
Jake Guentzel [59] – Auston Matthews [34] – Jack Hughes [86]
Kyle Connor [81] – J.T. Miller [10] – Matt Boldy [12]
Brock Nelson [29] – Vincent Trocheck [16] – Dylan Larkin [21]
Zach Werenski [8] – Jake Sanderson [85]
Jaccob Slavin [74] – Adam Fox [23]
Noah Hanifin [15] – Brock Faber [14]
Jake Oettinger [30] starts in net for the Americans, backed up by Connor Hellebuyck [37] The projected extras are Jeremy Swayman and Charlie McAvoy. Matthew Tkachuk is expected to miss this game after sitting with an apparent injury for most of the third period.
The Americans are undefeated so far, having thumped Finland and then out-battled Canada in Saturday night’s epic clash. The challenge for them will be staying sharp against Sweden in a game that doesn’t really matter in the standings. They’re going to be playing in Thursday’s final against a team that had to battle hard to get there.

Sweden

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Filip Forsberg [9] – Elias Pettersson [40] – Adrian Kempe [10]
Rickard Rakell [67] – Mika Zibanejad [93] – William Nylander [88]
Jesper Bratt [63] – Joel Eriksson Ek [20] – Lucas Raymond [23]
Leo Carlsson [91] – Elias Lindholm [28] – Gustav Nyquist [12]
Victor Hedman [77] – Jonas Brodin [25]
Ramus Andersson [4] – Erik Karlsson [65]
Gustav Forsling [42] – Rasmus Dahlin [26]
Filip Gustavsson [32] is projected to start in net, backed up by Linus Ullmark [35]. Sweden’s extras are Samuel Ersson, Victor Arvidsson and Mattias Ekholm. Rasmus Andersson and Leo Carlsson get their first games in of the tournament!
So Sweden could make the final with a win. Or they could miss the final regardless of the result, as if they in regulation and so does Canada or Finland… they would make the final instead of Sweden. If Sweden has the same number of points as Canada or Finland, they lose on tiebreakers. So Sweden needs a win… and some help.
