A NEW LOOK VS THE CANES

Feb 3, 2010, 17:04 EST

So, after a lackluster effort Monday against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Flames will be adding two more new members to their lineup tonight as both Ales Kotalik and Chris Higgins will be suiting up against Carolina.
Here’s what we know so far
Higgins and Kotalik will play on a line together flanking Daymond Langkow. Jarome Iginla, Niklas Hagman and Matt Stajan played together in the third period on Monday, and they’ll start the game together tonight.
I liked how they worked in the skate today and this could be something that sparks a little chemistry right off the bat. Mikael Backlund will also play tonight, he’s centering the third line between Dustin Boyd and Rene Bourque. Bourque has struggled offensively lately, and a change of scenery from his usual centreman Langkow might be just what he needs to get things turned around.
The fourth line sees Curtis Glencross and Jamal Mayers flank Eric Nystrom and the scratches tonight will be Craig Conroy (injury), David Moss (injury), Nigel Dawes (injury), Brian McGrattan (healthy), Jamie Lundmark (healthy.)
Brent Sutter said after an optional morning skate that he wants Higgins and Kotalik to come in and play their game. He feels playing with Langkow might be a calming factor for the two newest Flames against the lowly Hurricanes.
We saw a lot of the lines juggled as things didn’t go so great on Monday as you may have already noted. So we’ll have to wait and see if things stay together in this game or if the old line blender comes out and things get mashed up once the puck drops.
