Flames v. Predators: There was a Flames game?

I’m not gonna lie to you, I didn’t see a minute of tonight’s Flames game. I was watching the United States and Canada in the WJC gold medal game at a friend’s place.
A Bombay Saphire gin or two may have been consumed while we watched the comeback from our Canadian kids, as Oiler prospect Jordan Eberle scored two late goals to send the game to overtime. Disappointment for us, and celebration for TLP and the American hockey program as Washington Capitals defense prospect John Carlson (27th overall, 2008) scored the winner in what was a terrific hockey game. With the loss, Canada falls to 27-6-3 all-time versus the U.S. in the tournament.
Speaking of TLP, here’s his take on the Flames game (obviously toungue-in-cheek, yet gloating after the American victory)…
Weaksauce Canadian netminder Dan Ellis gave up a goal to Noteworthy American David Moss. Who assisted on that goal? Noteworthy American Eric Nystrom. Ellis, by the way, is from Saskatoon, where the Canadians got their lunch boxed up and handed to ‘em by the Red, White and Blue. As if that rotten burgh didn’t have enough about which to be ashamed tonight.
I dunno TLP, did you by chance here what American coach Dean Blais had to say when asked the difference between this team and previous American teams that appeared to be stocked with more talent? "We played Canadian hockey. We played gritty." You know what they say… imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
FLAMES GAME NOTES:
Without having seen tonight’s Flames game, I ask those of you who did to fill me in. A fifth victory in a row is obviously a good thing, but was it all good. Any concerns?
In the meantime, here’s a look at some random tidbits from tonight…
- In his 200th NHL game, David Moss broke out of a goal-scoring slump (last scoring Dec. 3) with his 7th of the season.
- Defenseman Cory Sarich returned for his first game since Nov. 23. He had missed 19 games with a foot injury.
- Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 27 of 28 for his 22nd win of the season. He’s allowed 1 goal in each of his last four games
- Craig Conroy did not make the trip to Nashville due to injury, the nature of which was not revealed.
- Jason Jaffray played 5:25 in his second NHL game of the season. Dion Phaneuf played a team-high 26:29.
- Six Nashville players are representing five nations in the Olympics: Shea Weber (Canada), Martin Erat (Czech Republic), Alexander Sulzer & Marcel Goc (Germany), Ryan Suter (United States) and Patric Hornqvist (Sweden)
UP NEXT:
The Flames will visit the Minnesota Wild tomorrow night (01/06/10 @ 6:00, FAN960), before returning home Friday against Columbus. The Wild (20-20-3) are coming off a 4-1 loss to Chicago.
