Over at TSN, they’re embarking on their annual “Core 4” process where they dig into the top prospects from throughout the National Hockey League. Part of that process is their annual list of the top 50 NHL club-affiliated players under the age of 24.
A pair of Calgary Flames prospects are on that list: Dustin Wolf (22nd) and Matt Coronato (50th).
Wolf, 22, is the top goaltender on TSN’s list. He was a seventh-round pick by the Flames back in 2019, and since being drafted he’s been named his league’s goaltender of the year four times in four seasons, and was also the American Hockey League’s most valuable player last season. He’s played in the NHL twice, looked good both times, and is generally regarded as the Flames’ goaltender of the future. He’s quite good at stopping pucks and is currently doing so with the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers.
Coronato, 20, was the Flames’ first-round selection in 2021. He was a top scorer with Harvard University for two seasons, then went pro with the Flames at the tail-end of last season. He’s split this season so far between the Flames and Wranglers; he’s got a scorer’s instincts and a great release, but the rest of his game could use a bit of cleaning up. He’s impressing with the Wranglers so far, so a return to the NHL may not be too far off.
