All aboard the Flames goaltending carosel

The Calgary Flames have had a tumultuous year in net, to say the least.
After starting the 2015-16 season with three netminders on their NHL roster, we’ve seen two players get waived and demoted to the American Hockey League and two players suffer fairly major injuries by way of goal-mouth collisions.
Now that Karri Ramo’s out with ACL and meniscus damage for 6-8 months – a product of Joonas Donskoi crashing into him in San Jose – we’re back to Jonas Hiller and Joni Ortio as the NHL tandem for the rest of the season. Here’s how the Flames goalie carousel has gone through this season so far.

HILLER & RAMO (& ORTIO)

When: October 7-20, 2015
What: Hiller and Ramo alternated starts. Ortio was a healthy scratch for every game, despite being too important to put on waivers.
Team Record: 1-5-0 [Ramo 0-3-0; Hiller 1-2-0]
Team Performance: 4.17 goals against average, 31.7 shots against per game, .868 save percentage.

HILLER & ORTIO

When: October 23-28, 2015
What: After the team’s bad start, Ramo was placed on waivers, cleared, and demoted to the AHL’s Stockton Heat. Hiller and Ortio alternated starts until Hiller was injured on Oct. 28 against Ottawa when Bobby Ryan crashed into him.
Team Record: 1-2-1 [Hiller 1-1-0; Ortio 0-1-1]
Team Performance: 3.50 goals against average, 28.3 shots against per game, .876 save percentage.

RAMO & ORTIO

When: October 30-November 24, 2015
What: After playing one period in the AHL, Ramo was recalled. Ortio started one game against Montreal, got lit up, and then sat the rest of the games until Hiller returned from injury.
Team Record: 6-6-0 [Ramo 6-5-0; Ortio 0-1-0]
Team Performance: 3.33 goals against average, 29.7 shots against per game, .888 save percentage.

RAMO & HILLER

When: November 27, 2015-February 11, 2016
What: Hiller returned from injury and Ortio was put on waivers and sent to Stockton.
Team Record: 17-12-2 [Ramo 11-10-1; Hiller 6-2-1]
Team Performance: 2.48 goals against average, 28.5 shots against per game, .913 save percentage.

HILLER & ORTIO (AGAIN)

When: February 12, 2016-Present
What: Ramo was injured on February 11 against San Jose. Ortio recalled from the AHL’s Stockton Heat.
Team Record: 0-3-0 [Hiller 0-2-0, Ortio 0-1-0]
Team Performance: 5.00 goals against average, 29.0 shots against per game, .828 save percentage.
