To start everything off lets look at how Calgary’s attack has looked as well as the Hurricanes defence.

There isn’t much overlap to see here – the Hurricanes have defended extremely well thus far and are one of the best teams in the league statistically because of it. Mangiapane himself is flying with an even higher xGF% than either Svechnikov or Kadri – 62.1% to be exact. Pat Steinberg tweeted out Friday that the line combinations were back to normal at practice so the buzzsaw line of Mangiapane – Kadri – Dubé should be back together. It’s not the primary bet because Mangiapane is typically the goalscorer, but when you crash the crease like him assists can come from cleaning up the garbage in the crease as well.

The Flames have fired over 40 on net the last three games in a row and hit 27 against Colorado on opening night. It’s still very early in the season – things don’t get considered normalized until there’s over 30 for sample size and even then you want about double to truly be more accurate. The Hurricanes opponents to date haven’t been top of the table teams – CBJ, SJS, SEA, and EDM. Outside of the Oilers they haven’t seen a real test – Calgary should be that test.
