The Calgary Flames will be looking to rebound from a season-opening 4-3 loss in Winnipeg when they open their home schedule on Saturday against the visiting Vancouver Canucks as -140 favorites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary’s loss to the Jets extended the team’s losing streak in opening night contests to 11 games. However, the club rides a three-game win streak in home openers into Saturday night’s matchup at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Canucks vs Flames | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Flames’ recent success in home openers has largely come at Vancouver’s expense, with two of their three recent victories coming against the Canucks. However, Calgary has produced mixed results when facing the Canucks in recent years. The club has posted wins in just four of their past eight overall meetings, and has failed to tally consecutive victories while winning four of their past eight on home ice.
Calgary also enters the first weekend of the campaign looking to improve on last season’s streaky performance on home ice. The club limped to a middling 16-13-4 record at home before the regular season ended prematurely in mid-March, and endured a pair of five-game losing streaks while falling to defeat in 12 of their final 18 dates at the Saddledome.
Shutting down opposing shooters emerged as a huge challenge during that stretch, with the Flames surrendering four or more goals in 11 of those contests. Not surprisingly, the total is pegged at 6.5 at online betting sites for Saturday night. The total finished OVER on 11 occasions during Calgary’s shaky stretch run at home, and was also a steady 9-4 in games where the total was set at 6.0 or higher.
The Canucks arrive in Calgary as +120 underdogs after splitting a two-game season-opening series in Edmonton earlier this week. Vancouver stormed out of the gate in a decisive 5-3 victory over the Oilers on Wednesday night, but the Canucks were unable to contain the dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl who combined for eight points in Edmonton’s 5-2 victory on Thursday.
After enjoying a night off on Thursday, Braden Holtby could be back in net for the Canucks, while Jacob Markstrom gets set to play between the pipes for Calgary against his former teammates. Holtby has earned the win in seven of his last 10 dates with the Flames, and has also claimed victory in two of three previous duels with Markstrom.
