The Calgary Flames’ contingent of World Championship invitees continues to grow.
Connor Mackey, who played his first three NHL games with the Flames this season, will represent the United States of America at the 2021 IIHF World Championship in Riga, Latvia.
The 24-year-old left-handed defenseman spent the majority of his season in the American Hockey League with the Stockton Heat, leading the team’s group of rearguards with 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 27 games.
Mackey—a product of Tower Lakes, IL—is set to become a restricted free agent on July 28. He’ll join Flames players Dillon Dube and Andrew Mangiapane (Canada), Nikita Nesterov (Russia), Emilio Pettersen (Norway), and Ilya Solovyov (Belarus) at the tournament.
The 2021 World Championship will take place between May 21 and June 26, 2021.
