Eddie Lack did not have a good time as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes.
Originally picked up for a third and sixth round pick, the Hurricanes had been hoping Lack would be an answer for their goaltending. And as a then-27-year-old coming off of a .921 save percentage season, he certainly had that potential.
It, of course, did not come to fruition, leading to the Flames picking him up for a sixth round pick and some relatively inconsequential contract swapping. It remains to be seen if he’ll be able to rebound in Calgary – if issues with Carolina’s goaltending coach, David Marcoux (formerly of Miikka Kiprusoff fame), are to be believed, then it’s entirely possible he will – but that’s not what this post is about.
This post is about how friggin’ great Lack is going to look as a Flame, because his new mask is in and it is gorgeous.
Earlier we got Mike Smith’s new Flames mask, as well as both goalies’ new Flames pads.
And now… this.

It is, honestly, really great. Lack’s new mask is pretty simple overall, but he doesn’t need to go big or fancy with it. After all, he gets to use fire as a theme now, and he makes the most of it – with some personal touches thrown in, most notably the Tre Kronor and the Muppets’ Swedish Chef, which is nothing new for Lack.
Except now, the Swedish Chef’s hat is on fire. Which is only fitting. I’m sure he’ll be fine.
You combine Lack’s new lid with his new pads and they fit perfectly together, too. His entire setup, when it all comes together, is going to look outstanding. So here’s to Lack having that rebound season after all – both because it’ll be good for the Flames, and because we deserve to have a goalie who looks this good out there, too.
