After a pretty good bounce-back game on Saturday afternoon, the Calgary Flames (5-5-1, 11 points) face another strong opponent in the form of the impressive Toronto Maple Leafs (8-3-0, 16 points). It’s the first half of a back-to-back set on the road for the Flames.
The action starts at 5 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West (on the national feed) and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

The Flames

Projected lines, via Daily Faceoff:
Gaudreau – Monahan – Lindholm
Tkachuk – Backlund – Frolik
Bennett – Jankowski – Neal
Hathaway – Ryan – Dube

Giordano – Brodie
Hanifin – Hamonic

Valimaki – Andersson
Mike Smith starts for the Flames after a strong game against Washington. He’s backed up by David Rittich, who starts on Tuesday against Buffalo. The healthy scratches look are Dalton Prout, Michael Stone and Austin Czarnik. The only change from Saturday’s game is Mark Jankowski rotating in and bumping Czarnik to the press box.
The key to the Flames’ success tonight? Honestly, just keep doing what they did against Washington. They (mostly) stuck to their system structures on Saturday and as a result they didn’t give up too many high danger chances. (And when they did, Smith was good.)
Keep an eye on line matching; on paper the Flames have some decently balanced lines and pairings, but depending on how things go Bill Peters might shuffle the deck to keep the Leafs off-balance.

The Maple Leafs

Projected lines, via Daily Faceoff:
Hyman – Tavares – Kapanen
Marleau – Kadri – Marner
Johnsson – Lindholm – Brown
Leivo – Gauthier – Ennis
Rielly – Hainsey
Gardiner – Zaitsev
Marincin – Ozhiganov
Frederik Andersen starts for Toronto, backed up by Garret Sparks. Their healthy scratches are Travis Dermott and Justin Holl.
The Leafs are good this year, but they’re streaky. They’re coming off a pair of wins over the Jets, but before that they lost twice and won five in a row. Their defensive group is a bit iffy, but their forward group is deep and fast and talented, even without Auston Matthews.
