With the Stanley Cup playoffs over for the Calgary Flames, the club has made a quartet of roster changes. They’ve returned four players to the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat: goaltender Adam Werner, blueliners Juuso Valimaki and Connor Mackey, and forward Adam Ruzicka.
Mackey was recalled by the Flames on April 2 and served as defensive depth for the final month of the season, playing three games for the Flames.
Ruzicka was recalled by the Flames on April 3, originally as an emergency recall and later converted to a regular recall, and served as forward depth for the final month of the season. He played 28 games for the Flames in 2021-22 and amassed 10 points, and he played five games during his most recent recall.
Werner was recalled by the Flames on May 3 to act as the Flames’ third goaltender. He was Stockton’s backup so it didn’t really impact the Heat much, but it gave him practice reps with the NHL group. He never dressed.
Valimaki was brought up by the Flames on May 18 on an emergency recall, likely as insurance due to Chris Tanev’s injury. He never dressed on this recall, but he played nine games for the Flames this season.
The Heat play Game 3 of their best-of-five playoff series with the Colorado Eagles on Friday night. They’re a win away from advancing to the AHL’s semi-final round.
