Flames Assign Andrew Mangiapane To OHL

He had a good showing, but it was not meant to be – at least this season. Despite a pretty good showing in Penticton and a decent training camp with the NHL group, 19-year-old winger Andrew Mangiapane has been returned to the OHL’s Barrie Colts.
Calgary’s sixth rounder in this past June’s NHL Draft, Mangiapane scored at a torrid pace in 2014-15 after being passed over in the 2014 Draft. He probably wasn’t picked in 2014 because he was small and didn’t have insane offensive numbers, and he fell to the sixth round (despite his insane offensive numbers) because of his size.
The Flames probably feel like Mangiapane’s found money right now. He’s fast, he’s creative and he’s seemingly fearless in the dirty areas. He had 105 points for Barrie last season. He might be able to top that in 2015-16. He won’t ever be a large physical presence – he’s listed by the Colts as 5’10” and 170 pound – but he might end up being a really good pro hockey player in a short while.
The roster move reduces the Flames to the following 58 players remaining in camp.
