Four Flames among ESPN’s top 100 players of the decade

4 years agoThe 2010s are winding down and various media outlets are announcing their various Best of the Decade lists. Our friends at ESPN did a Top 100 players listing and, as you would imagine, several Calgary Flames players were represented.
98 – Jaromir Jagr
Jagr spent roughly three months with the Flames back in 2017-18. His tenure with the Flames was, uh, a tad uneven given he had to rush to get into playing shape. But prior to that short stint with Calgary, he was one of the top players in league history (even as Father Time bore down on him).
70 – Jarome Iginla
The Flames franchise leader in just about everything, Iginla was traded in 2013 to kick off the rebuild and give that poor man a shot at winning a Stanley Cup. It didn’t quite work out, but he remained a potent goal-scorer for much of the decade.
51 – Johnny Gaudreau
From ESPN:
Johnny Hockey is the third-highest-scoring left winger for the decade, at 0.96 points per game over 428 games, and was 11th in goals above average per 60 for forwards (0.611). The 5-foot-9 dynamo has his defensive deficiencies, but the Flames aren’t paying him for defense.
16 – Mark Giordano
From ESPN:
His 74 points last season earned him an overdue Norris Trophy and the recognition that comes with it. But no player in our top 20 outkicked his coverage more than Giordano, who was constantly better than his teammates on Flames squads that made the playoffs just three times in the decade.
