Talk about a wild ending.
The Calgary Flames and Seattle Kraken traded three goals in 43 seconds in the final minutes of regulation time on Thursday, with the Flames ultimately coming out ahead by a 6–4 score.
With five minutes remaining in the third period, the Flames and Kraken remained tied at 3–3. Then, at the 16:51 mark, @Andrew Mangiapane banged the rebound of an @Oliver Kylington shot past Seattle goaltender @Chris Driedger for his team-leading 18th goal of the season.
@Noah Hanifin picked up the secondary assist on Mangiapane’s goal, which gave the Flames a 4–3 lead.
The Flames’ one-goal lead lasted all of 30 seconds.
After scoring Seattle’s first goal of the game, @Mark Giordano managed to set up Seattle’s game-tying marker. The 38-year-old Kraken captain fired a wrister toward the Calgary crease that @Jared McCann managed to deflect past Flames goaltender @Jacob Markstrom.
@Jordan Eberle also assisted on McCann’s 13th goal of the season, which restored the tie at the 17:21 mark of the third.
Finally, the Flames restored their one-goal lead just 13 seconds after McCann’s equalizer.
This time, @Johnny Gaudreau set up @Matthew Tkachuk for a quick one-timer in the slot that beat Driedger cleanly through his five-hole. Tkachuk’s 13th goal of the season gave the Flames a 5–4 lead with just 2:26 remaining in regulation.
Hanifin added an empty-net goal with 20 seconds remaining to give the Flames an all-important two-goal lead.
Calgary ultimately took Thursday’s contest by a 6–4 score, snapping a four-game losing streak and improving to 16–7–6 on the season. @Johnny Gaudreau scored twice and @Milan Lucic also added a goal in the victory.
The Flames will return to action on Jan. 2 to take on Chicago at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
