Flames prospect Dustin Wolf named WHL All-Star

Friends, we hope you’re sitting down. In what can only be described as… not a shocker at all, Calgary Flames prospect Dustin Wolf has been named to the WHL’s Western Conference First All-Star Team.

It’s the second season in a row that the 18-year-old Wolf has been named a conference First Team All-Star.

The Flames’ seventh round selection, 214th overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft, Wolf was one of the top WHL goalies in 2018-19 but fell on draft weekend because he’s not huge relative to other goalies. He followed up last season’s strong performance with a season that was somehow even better.

He went 34-10-2 with nine shutouts, a 1.88 goals against average and a .935 save percentage. He led the WHL outright in shutouts, goals against average and save percentage, and was tied for the lead in wins. (All this despite being away for the better part of a month for the World Juniors.)

Wolf should be considered the front-runner for the WHL’s Del Wilson Trophy as the circuit’s top goaltender, as well as the Canadian Hockey League’s award for Goaltender of the Year. Among all Canadian major junior goalies he was the statistical standout; only Chicoutimi’s Alexis Shank had more wins (36), but Wolf led every other CHL goalie in every other major category.

Wolf is a very good major junior goaltender.
