A Calgary Flames prospect has earned himself a spot at Hockey Canada’s World Junior summer development camp. 2021 sixth-rounder Jack Beck has been invited to participate in the camp, which runs July 23-27 in Calgary at Winsport. The camp is to begin the process for fielding a team for the 2023 World Juniors.
Beck is one of 26 forwards invited to the camp. Typically Canada nanes 13 or 14 forwards to their tournament roster.
Beck, 19, was selected by the Flames in the 2021 NHL Draft after playing zero games in the 2020-21 season due to the Ontario Hockey League’s year-long shutdown due to the pandemic. Despite that, Beck enjoyed a breakout 2021-22 season. He amassed 22 goals and 44 points in 36 games, emerging as arguably the Ottawa 67’s top offensive player when he was healthy. (He missed time due to a minor knee injury suffered during the summer, as well as after suffering a kidney contusion from a hit mid-season.)
The 2023 World Juniors take place Dec. 26, 2022 to Jan. 5, 2023 in Halifax and Moncton. The 2022 World Juniors take place Aug. 9-20 in Edmonton, and the selection process for that team is expected to be revealed shortly by Hockey Canada.
