A pair of 2019 Calgary Flames draft picks have been honoured by the American Hockey League. 2019 first-rounder Jakob Pelletier and seventh-rounder Dustin Wolf, both of the Stockton Heat, have been named to the AHL’s All-Rookie Team.
Pelletier, 21, played much of the season for Stockton on their top line with Matthew Phillips and either Glenn Gawdin or Adam Ruzicka. A two-way forward in junior, Pelletier adapted extremely well (and quickly) to the pro game, putting up 27 goals and 62 points through 65 games. He sits second in the AHL in points and is expected to be a contender for the league’s top rookie award.
Another strong contender for that award is Wolf, 21, who grabbed hold of Stockton’s starting goaltending job early in the season and never let it go. He’s posted a record of 33-8-4 with a 2.33 goals against average and .924 save percentage. He leads the entire AHL in wins, is seventh in goals against average and third in save percentage. He is, by far, the top rookie goaltender in the AHL.
The Heat finish off their season on Saturday night against Bakersfield. They’ll begin their post-season journey in another week after enjoying a first round bye.
