The Calgary Flames have made another roster move. The club has announced the signing of right wing Buddy Robinson to a two-year, two-way contract. The deal pays Robinson $700,000 at the NHL level and $350,000 at the AHL level.
Robinson, 26, is a right-shot winger from New Jersey who is listed at 6’6″ and 231 pounds. Like fellow UFA signing Tyler Graovac, he adds some skill and NHL experience to the Stockton Heat roster and is a player that can probably step into the Flames roster in a pinch and be just fine. (Fun fact: his given first name is Charles.) He attended the same high school as Johnny Gaudreau.
A product of Lake Superior State University, Robinson was originally signed by the Ottawa Senators as a college free agent in 2013. He’s played seven NHL games for the Senators, but otherwise has been a productive AHL player for the Binghamton Senators, San Jose Barracuda and Manitoba Moose.
Robinson’s signing gives the Flames 35 active contracts for 2018-19, plus another nine restricted free agents who need new deals.
In related news, the Stockton Heat have signed 2017 Flames draft pick Zach Fischer to an AHL contract as well as re-signed forward Mike McMurtry to a new AHL deal. The Flames retain Fischer’s NHL rights until June 1, 2019, but this gives them a chance to see if he can hack it as a pro first.
