Flames sign Dustin Wolf to entry level contract

The Calgary Flames have announced that their erstwhile general manager has signed goaltending prospect Dustin Wolf to a three year entry level contract. It’s the third signing for the Flames this week, following on the heels of new pacts for Emilio Pettersen and Johannes Kinnvall.

Wolf, 19, was the Flames’ seventh round pick, 214th overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft. The star netminder for the Everett Silvertips has been top marks in the Western Hockey League, earning comparisons to predecessor Carter Hart for how danged dominant he’s been between the pipes.

Wolf was the statistical leader in the WHL (outright or tied) in wins, shutouts, goals against average and save percentage, and is the leader (or close to it) in those categories Canada-wide. He’s a two-time conference all-star and the reigning WHL Scholastic Player of the Year.

In short? He’s a damn good goaltender, who slid to the seventh round at the draft because he’s relatively short by goaltending standards. It hasn’t seemed to hold him back much in the Dub, though.

Wolf will return to the WHL next season, so his contract will slide by a year. He’ll be eligible to play in the AHL in 2021-22.
