We have a trade to announce! The Calgary Flames have traded their fourth round selection in the 2019 NHL Draft to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for their fourth round selection, 122nd overall, in this year’s draft.
With that selection, the Flames have selected forward Milos Roman from the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants.
A product of Kysucke Nove Mesto, Slovakia, Roman is a 6’0″, 196 pound left shot center with a November 1999 birthday. Roman played his youth hockey in the HC Trinec organization in the Czech Republic. He impressed scouts with his offensive abilities, frequently finishing at the top of scoring for his age group.
He played 30 games of pro in 2016-17 – as a 17-year-old – and made the call to come over to North America. He was selected by the Giants in the CHL Import Draft. He had 32 points in 39 games this season. He’s a fast, smart, offensively skilled player who needs to work on the defensive side of his game a bit. There are also some potential injury concerns – he played one game between early December and mid-March between World Junior camp and a nagging ankle injury – but if he can round his game out there’s a lot to like about this pick.
We’re seeking confirmation on which of the Flames 2019 fourth round picks was traded; they owned their own pick as well as one acquired from the New York Islanders in the Travis Hamonic trade.
