The Calgary Flames will look to bounce back from a narrow 3-2 loss to Winnipeg that evened their best-of-five qualifying series at one game apiece when they battle the Jets in Game 3 on Tuesday as -150 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary didn’t take advantage of the injuries suffered by Winnipeg in its decisive 4-1 victory in Game 1, falling behind early in Monday’s contest on the way to its 11th defeat in 13 playoff contests going into Tuesday’s meeting at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Flames vs Jets | OddsShark Matchup Report
Calgary failed to capitalize on the momentum it gained from its Game 1 win, spotting the Jets an early 2-0 lead on Monday. The Flames battled back to even the score in the second period, but a lack of discipline finally caught up with them, with Nikolaj Ehlers potting the game winner while Calgary was killing one of the five penalties it incurred in the third period.
In addition, to losing five of their past six playoff series when following up a Game 1 win with a loss in Game 2, the Flames’ defeat on Monday snapped a stretch of 16 straight games in which they scored at least three goals.
Further complicating matters is the Flames’ continued inability to maintain dominance over Winnipeg. The team has now lost five of its last eight meetings with the Jets, tallying two or fewer goals in each of those defeats.
The Flames’ struggles to mount a sustained attack comes as good news to the Jets, who look to Game 3 listed as +130 underdogs at betting sites. The Jets rose to the occasion in Monday’s victory despite being without two of their top offensive threats, as both Patrik Laine and Mark Scheifele were unavailable after suffering Game 1 injuries that leaves their status uncertain.
While Winnipeg’s supporting cast proved to be the difference-makers in Game 2, the Jets will be counting on netminder Connor Hellebuyck to turn in another stellar performance in Game 3. Hellebuyck stopped 28 of 30 shots to seal Winnipeg’s win on Monday, and has now limited opposing shooters to two or fewer goals in seven of his past nine outings. With both Hellebuyck and Flames goalie Cam Talbot looking sharp, value could be found on the total in Tuesday’s contest going UNDER 5.5 goals.
