The Calgary Flames can advance to the first round of the NHL playoffs with a win on Thursday as they take on the Winnipeg Jets in Game 4 of their best-of-five qualifying series as -160 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary is coming off a lopsided 6-2 victory over Winnipeg in Game 3 on Tuesday, and takes a commanding 2-1 series lead into Thursday night’s matchup at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

The Flames’ offensive outburst was welcomed by the club, which has struggled at times to find the back of the net this season. The team received offensive contributions from up and down the lineup, with six different Flames shooters scoring goals.
In addition, the Flames’ six goals marked the best offensive performance since scoring six times in four of six games over a span of 10 days back in February. Calgary had averaged just three goals per game over its previous eight outings, scoring more than three times just once during that stretch.
Now poised to claim just their second playoff series win in their last eight postseason appearances, the Flames are heavy favourites to knock off the Jets, sporting short -600 odds on the series prices at online sports betting sites. However, Calgary has struggled to finish off opponents when poised to claim a series win, going 1-6 in its last seven opportunities, a run that started with their losses to Tampa Bay in Games 6 and 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
In addition to finding a higher gear on offence, the Flames should get a confidence boost by their continued strong defensive play against Winnipeg. With Tuesday’s win, Calgary has now limited the Jets to an average of just two goals per game over their past nine meetings.
Things will get no easier for the Jets as they try to extend the series on Thursday as +140 underdogs. With Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine sidelined by injury, Winnipeg has scored just six goals so far in the series. And while the play of goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been key to the Jets’ success, the Vezina Trophy finalist struggled on Tuesday, stopping just 26 of 31 shots he faced in his shakiest outing since January.
However, low-scoring remains the norm when these two teams meet, with five or fewer total goals getting scored in nine of their past 12 clashes. That trend has contributed to the steady -130 odds of the total going UNDER 5.5 on Thursday night.
