Calgary was limited to just a single goal in each of its seven defeats during the 3-6-1 run that preceded Thursday’s victory, and averaged just over two goals per game while losing four of six on a recent road trip.
The team has also struggled badly in its past two dates with Edmonton, scoring just two total goals in back-to-back losses, and posting just three victories in nine regular season visits to Alberta’s capital city since the end of the 2015/16 NHL season. In addition to frustrating fans, the Flames’ anemic offense has failed to produce steady results in totals betting. While Calgary has struggled to find the back of the net, opponents have feasted, averaging four goals per game over the past nine outings. That has given the edge to the OVER, which has gone 4-3-2 at sports bettting sites during that stretch.
While the Flames await the arrival of their new coach, the Oilers look to rebound from a week-long thrashing by the Toronto Maple Leafs as they hit the ice as -130 home chalk. The hottest team in the NHL just a week ago, the Oilers hit a wall in a three-game home series with Toronto, getting outscored by 13-1 margin in three straight losses. Edmonton now looks to avoid posting losses in four consecutive games played on home ice for the first time since December 2018.
