The Calgary Flames will get a chance to take a 2-0 lead in a playoff series for the first time since 2004 when they face the Dallas Stars on Thursday in the second game of their first-round series set as a -110 pick’em at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary turned in another steady performance in Game 1, claiming a third straight series-opening victory with a 3-2 win that marked the team’s third win in four meetings with Dallas.
Flames vs Stars | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Flames have played some of their best hockey of what has been a roller-coaster season during these playoffs. The team has taken home the win in four of five postseason contests, allowing more than two goals on just one occasion during that stretch.
Netminder Cam Talbot continued to shine in Tuesday’s victory, turning aside 24 of 26 shots, and has now backstopped Calgary to victory in eight of his past 10 starts, surrendering just 20 total goals during that stretch. Not surprisingly, the UNDER has paid out regularly at sports betting sites in Talbot’s recent starts, going 6-1-1 over his past eight appearances.
In addition, Talbot’s winning performance in Game 1 put the brakes on his four-game losing streak against Dallas. Talbot allowed 18 total goals in those defeats, a run that had raised concerns as to whether he was the Flames’ best option between the pipes in this series. With those concerns buried, the Flames have played with confidence, jumping out to early first-period leads in each of their past two outings, with Dillon Dube scoring three total first-period goals in those matchups.
The Flames’ Game 1 win has also provided them with breathing room on the NHL playoff series prices, where they have improved to -220 favourites. However, Calgary remains a lengthy +1200 wager to knock off the struggling Stars in four games, and sweep a playoff series for the first time since 1989.
After coming up short in Game 1, the Stars look to rebound in Thursday’s pick’em clash on the NHL odds. Dallas maintains a solid position on the moneyline despite slipping perilously close to a free fall. The Stars have now lost nine of their past 10 games overall, with their lone victory coming against St. Louis in the Western Conference round robin, a 2-1 shootout win.
While it has been six years since Dallas last fell behind 2-0 in a series, it hasn’t gone well when they have, with the Stars getting eliminated in each of the past 10 playoff series they have opened with consecutive losses.
