Welcome to the yearly wrap up of the top read articles over the last year!
One thing that caused seemingly mass confusion around the NHL this year was how the pandemic shortened season impacted significant dates.
One of which was the day for inking prospects to their entry-level contracts. One of the ones Calgary needed to sign was Milos Roma, who the Flames chose to not ink and instead allow him to re-enter the draft.
An article on that, written by Ryan Pike and published on June 1, was the 21st most-read article this year.
Report: Flames won’t be signing Milos Roman
Roman was drafted by the Flames in the fourth round of the 2018 draft trading their 2019 fourth-rounder to Montreal to select him, but the development just wasn’t there and he struggled to become a dominant two-way player in the WHL, as Pike wrote.
Here’s more of what Pike wrote about Roman:
As a forward, Roman was in a bit of a tough spot organizationally. In Stockton, the Flames will have a lot of first or second year pros that need ice time to develop including (deep breath) Dmitry Zavgorodniy, Emilio Pettersen, Adam Ruzicka, Eetu Tuulola, Martin Pospisil and Luke Philp. The club utilized a mixture of AHL veterans and youngsters in 2019-20 and the approach turned out really nicely from a standings and developmental perspective, which suggests that it’ll probably continue. But with so many spots already accounted for, fitting Roman into the developmental mix for the Heat would’ve been challenging.
