The Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks have made seven trades in their history. Most recently, the Flames sent Nikita Zadorov to the Canucks for a pair of draft picks.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, they may be close to another. Friedman reported on social media on Wednesday night that talks were “intensifying” between the two clubs regarding Elias Lindholm.
ESPN’s Kevin Weekes added a bit more potential context.
The 29-year-old Lindholm is in the final year of a six year contract signed shortly after his arrival in the 2018 off-season. The deal carries a $4.85 million cap hit and no trade restrictions. Lindholm was runner-up for the Selke Trophy in 2021-22, but hasn’t lived up to that form in the seasons since the departures of former linemates Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk. Playing on the first line with a rotation of wingers this season, Lindholm has nine goals and 32 points in 49 games.
The Flames reportedly engaged in contract talks with Lindholm over the summer, but the two sides were said to be pretty far apart in terms.
We’ll have more on this as it develops.
