Welcome to the Game Day Fire Drill, for this, Calgary’s 49th game of the season on Jan. 17, 2010.
Now this is a team we haven’t seen in a while.
These sides have met just once this season, way back in November. The schedule says Calgary lost 3-2 in a shootout but that can’t be right, can it? Calgary scoring more than a goal in one game? It seems crazy.
Anyhow, Anaheim is a team that, in my opinion, is far better than its record. It may have more losses than wins, but look at these names. Perry, Getzlaf, Ryan, Niedermayer, Koivu, etc. Good players. All Olympians. The problem hasn’t been offense this year (they’re right around league-average), but the goaltending has been just terrible.
Between Jonas Hiller and JS Giguere, the Ducks’ goaltending has combined for a 2.87 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. That’s gonna cost you over the course of a season, and if the Ducks were to ever, y’know, get solid goaltending, then they would instantly become a very dangerous team.
But since they’re playing Calgary, which couldn’t score on a soccer net right now, they probably don’t have anything about which to worry.

Who

The Calgary Flames (26-16-6 for 58 points. Tied for sixth in the West, tied for second in the Northwest) and the Anaheim Ducks (21-20-7 for 49 points. Tied for 12th in the West, fifth in the Pacific).

When

6 p.m. Mountain time and 8 p.m. Eastern time. All other time zones should watch out for mirrors.

Where

Honda Center, Anaheim, California.
Calgary is 14-6-3 on the road this year, and have won three of their last four games away from Calgary. The Ducks are 14-8-2 at home and had won five straight before losing 4-0 to L.A. on Thursday.

What (to hate about the Ducks)

Corey Perry — Not only is he an extremely good pest (heck, I can’t even stand him and I normally love pests — Burrows, Avery, etc. They’re my guys!), but he also has 18 goals and 28 assists this season to lead his team. Not bad at all.
Dan Sexton — This rookie was called up from the ECHL to the AHL earlier this year. He spent five games in the American League before getting the call to the NHL, and now he has 14 points in 21 games, which isn’t bad at all.
George Parros — Only because he looks like a bad guy from a Sam Peckinpah film.

Why

Because you should take a break from football. Enjoy the game and anticipate the new work week in the comments section.
