Welcome to the 17th Game Day Fire Drill, for this, Calgary’s 65th game of the season on March 6, 2009.

Funny story.

I go to work today and a friend of mine that used to work for the Hurricanes says, “Oh, Flames/Hurricanes tonight, eh?”

Panic.

I had not written this GDFD yet. Nor had I remembered that the game was even taking place tonight. For some reason I had it in my head that it was tomorrow afternoon, and I was eminently prepared to bang one out while hung over tomorrow morning.

That plan was out the window, obviously.

So I now present to you this hastily thrown-together, ridiculous thing.

The Calgary Flames (39-19-6 for 84 points. Third in the West, first in the Northwest) and the Carolina Hurricanesn (33-27-5 for 71 points. Tenth in the East, third in the Atlantic)

5 p.m. Mountain time and 7 p.m. Eastern time. All other time zones should look at this funny dog do something funny.

RBC Center, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Calgary is 17-11-7 on the road this year, and are rockin’ and rollin’ with six wins on the trot away from the friendly confines of the Saddledome. The Flyers are a stingy 16-14-4 at home and have won three straight in Raleigh.

Erik Cole—  Former Oiler. Also, his name reminds me vaguely of Cale Hulse, and that’s never a good thing, is it?

Eric Staal — I dunno, he just seems like a dink.

Cam Ward — If only because he didn’t play a lot at the beginning of the season and screwed my fantasy team right out of the gate.

Jussi Jokinen— A.K.A. The crummy Jokinen. He’s good in skills competitions/shootouts. But who cares?

Brandon Sutter  — More like Traitor Sutter. Should stick with your uncle, kid. He knows what’s goin’ on.

Paul Maurice — Another glasses-wearing coach. Yeah, Professor. We’re all very impressed. Go figure out the hypotenuse of a triangle and get back to me.
