Welcome to the Game Day Fire Drill, for this, Calgary’s eight game of the season on Oct. 16, 2009.

I don’t know how much we have to fear here.

Almost literally every single player on the Canucks is out for like eight months or something. The term "injury-plagued" doesn’t begin to describe it. And this isn’t like the Flames at the end of last season where it was a bunch of fourth line guys and then one or two bigger contributors getting hurt, this is some of Vancouver’s most important players.

Sami Salo is literally on the injured reserve for the 38th time in his career. This, by the way, is his 11th season in the league. An average of like 3.5 trips to the IR per year. And that’s with two seasons of 74 or more games (2002-03 and ’03-04). You almost feel bad for the guy, and the Canucks too. They let Matthias Ohlund go because they figured Salo, Bieksa, Ehrhoff and Edler could carry the water. Ooops.

And then there’s Daniel Sedin, who’s out a couple weeks with an ankle injury. I guess we’ll see how his brother reacts to it, but I believe the pair had missed a combined one game since 2005. It will certainly be weird to see one finish with more than five or six points more than the other.

But lookit this lineup for tonight’s tilt.

Do any of those lines scare you that much? The answer, obviously, is no.

And that’s what has me worried.

The Calgary Flames (4-2-1 for nine points. Fourth in the West, second in the Northwest) and the Vancouver Canucks (2-3-0 for four points. Thirteenth in the West, fourth in the Central).

7pm Mountain time and 9pm Eastern time. All other time zones should proactively hunt down their stolen bike.

Pengrowth Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta.

Calgary is 2-1-0 at home this year, and needs to get its feet back under it tonight against a woebegone division opponent. The Canucks are 0-2-0 on the road, which is bad.

For today, I think we’ll take it easy on the poor li’l fellers. A top line with Grabner, one Sedin and Burrows is punishment enough, I think.
