The 2017 National Hockey League awards have been handed out as part of the annual ceremony in Las Vegas. Calgary Flames winger Johnny Gaudreau captured the Lady Byng, but a look across the league’s results reveals a lot of Flames representation across all awards.
Here’s how did the Flames are in award voting overall.

Frank J. Selke Trophy

Awarded to the forward judged to most excel at the defensive aspects of the game.

Mikael Backlund finished fourth in voting, appearing quite frequently as the third, fourth or fifth player on many ballots. Not quite enough to win (or finish top three), but enough to really establish himself as a future contender I’d say.
[Voted on by the members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA)]

Calder Memorial Trophy

Awarded to the league’s top rookie.

It was a rough year to be a rookie, as Matthew Tkachuk had a monster year as part of the 3M Line yet only finished seventh because of some incredible performances by the guys in the top six.
[Voted on by the members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA)]

James Norris Memorial Trophy

Awarded to the league’s top defenseman.

Mark Giordano finished eighth, Dougie Hamilton finished ninth. That’s right: the Flames top pairing both finished inside the top 10 – Calgary was the only team with multiple representatives in that group.

GM of the Year

Awarded to the league’s top GM

Treliving received a single third-place vote, which puts him in the top half of the league’s GMs.
[Voted on by a panel of broadcasters, writers and executives.]

Jack Adams Award

Awarded to the league’s top coach.

Gulutzan survived a terrible first six weeks to get the Flames to the playoffs. He placed sixth in the balloting, including a lot of third-place votes.

All-Star Teams

A couple of the positional races ended up with some Flames flavour, though none of the races saw the Flames players really get close to an All-Star positional spot.

The defensive All-Star results were a bit different than the Norris Trophy results, despite being voted on by the same people (the PHWA). Weird.
