The Calgary Flames will be looking to take a commanding 2-0 series lead when they continue their best-of-five qualifying-round clash with the Winnipeg Jets on Monday as -155 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary drew first blood in the series, posting a decisive 4-1 Game 1 victory on Saturday, and is now positioned to record wins in consecutive playoff games for the first time since April 2015 when they hit the ice for Monday afternoon’s matchup at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Jets vs Flames | OddsShark Matchup Report
Saturday’s victory came as welcome relief to the Flames, who suffered a stunning upset loss in five games in the first round of last season’s NHL playoffs, and had posted just one win in their previous 11 postseason contests.
The team maintained its composure after surrendering the opening goal less than nine minutes into the contest. The Flames’ special teams eventually stepped up, potting a pair of power play goals and a shorthanded marker in the middle frame to put the game out of reach.
With the win, the Flames also extended their recent dominance over Winnipeg in games when designated as the home team. Calgary has now earned the win in seven of its past eight ‘home’ meetings with the Jets, filling the net with 4.5 goals per game over that stretch, and sports a 13-2-1 overall record in head-to-head matchups since the Jets entered the NHL as the Atlanta Thrashers 20 years ago.
Suddenly finding themselves in a difficult situation, the Jets return to action on Monday lagging as +135 underdogs at sports betting sites. In addition to leaving them trailing in the series, the loss came at a particularly high cost for the Jets. The team’s leading scorer during the regular season, Mark Scheifele, suffered what appeared to be a serious lower-body injury in Saturday’s contest, leaving his status for the remainder of the series in doubt.
Sniper Patrik Laine was also forced to leave Saturday’s contest with an apparent hand or wrist injury, and is listed as questionable for Monday’s clash. The loss of Scheifele and Laine would be devastating for the Jets. The duo combined to score 57 goals and 136 total points during the regular season, and had been counted on to spur a Winnipeg offense that has scored two or fewer goals while falling to defeat in nine of the club’s past 11 playoff contests.
