The Calgary Flames look to snap a 2-7-0 run that has put a huge dent in their playoff hopes when they open a two-game home series with the division-leading Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday as +135 underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary returns home looking for answers after dropping a 3-2 decision in Edmonton on Friday that leaves them stalled in sixth place in the divisional standings going into Sunday night’s matchup at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Now sitting six points adrift of the fourth-place Montreal Canadiens, who also hold four games in hand, the Flames have tumbled to a distant +6600 wager on the odds to win the North Division. And while Calgary still enjoys a chance to close the gap in its five remaining dates with the Canadiens later this month, the team must first find a way to reignite its moribund offensive attack.
With Friday’s loss in Edmonton, the Flames have now averaged just 1.57 goals per game while losing six of seven in regulation, and now rank 25th overall in team scoring with a meagre 2.49 goals per game. That has contributed to steady returns for those taking the UNDER at betting sites, which has gone 5-1-1 over the team’s past seven games. Calgary’s scoring woes also extend to the team’s recent clashes with Toronto. The Flames have dropped four of six to the Maple Leafs this season, including a pair of defeats on home ice in which they tallied just five total goals.
Things are unlikely to get much easier in Sunday’s clash, which the Maple Leafs enter as strong -155 favorites. Toronto arrives in Calgary on a steady 5-0-1 run that leaves them perched atop the division standings, four points up on both the Oilers and Winnipeg.
Jack Campbell is coming off another stellar performance in Toronto’s 2-1 shootout win over the Jets on Friday night. The 29-year-old has now given up just 11 total goals while racking up an unblemished 8-0-0 record on the season. Campbell, though, will be watching from the bench on Sunday as the Maple Leafs are expected to give the start to Michael Hutchinson.
However, the silver lining for the Flames is their strong defensive play when facing Toronto this season. While the team surrendered seven total goals in a pair of losses at Scotiabank Arena back in January, they have been much steadier in four subsequent home meetings, picking up a pair of wins while outscoring the Maple Leafs by a narrow 8-7 overall margin.
