As the North American sporting calendar remains murky for the remainder of 2020, the Calgary Flames have made a move regarding one of their European-based players. Prospect Martin Pospisil has been loaned to HC Kosice of the Slovak Tipsport Liga.
HC Kosice announced the loan on Facebook on Thursday morning.
Pospisil, 20, is entering the second year of his entry level contract with the Flames. He spent the 2019-20 season with the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat. He played just 26 games and had three goals and 10 points as a rookie. His season was derailed by getting knocked out by the late Colby Cave in a fight early on Oct. 19. When he returned to action in January he started to get his mojo going, and he had seven points in his final seven games before the season’s stoppage.
Pospisil was a fourth round selection of the Flames in the 2018 NHL Draft. He’s originally from Zvolen, Slovakia, roughly a two and a half hour drive west of Kosice. Most European leagues are in the process of cementing their 2020-21 plans, but with the AHL not starting prior to early December it makes sense for Pospisil to get some playing time in his homeland before the North American camps get going.
