It took almost half the season, but at long last, Michael Frolik scored his first assist of the season – and the 200th of his career.
Frolik’s been in Flames news a bit lately, and not for good reasons: his agent, Allan Walsh, went public in requesting Frolik receive more ice time. This comes off the heels of Frolik sitting as a healthy scratch for the Flames’ previous outing, a 3-2 overtime loss to the Canucks, just a couple of games in returning after missing a month due to injury.
Against the Sharks, though, it didn’t take Frolik long to prove why he should be dressed: just 1:10 into the game, the reunited 3M line took to the ice, and Frolik was the driving force in getting the puck into the offensive zone. From there, Matthew Tkachuk and Mikael Backlund took care of the rest, giving the Flames an early 1-0 lead over their toughest competition for the Pacific Division crown.
