NHL History: Calgary Flames advance to Stanley Cup finals today in 2004
By Zach Laing
3 years agoGame six. Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks. If the Flames win, they move onto the finals. If San Jose wins, they get one more chance.
With their series on the line, Calgary’s stars came to play. Jarome Iginla kicked things off with a powerplay tally at 18:52 of the first frame.
Martin Gelinas scored what would be the game winner in the second frame, a tally notched at 13:02 with the assist going to Craig Conroy, who got his second assist.
While Alyn McCauley scored in the second, it wasn’t enough for San Jose.
Robyn Regher scored an empty-net goal with one second left, and the Calgary Flames were off to vie for Lord Stanley after the 3-1 win.
In net, Mikka Kiprusoff didn’t face many challenges as the netminder stopped 18 of 19 shots he faced. Calgary defence did a great job in swallowing up any San Jose chances.
