Nine new cases of COVID-19 found in NHL players, league says

There have been nine new cases of COVID-19 identified in NHL players, the league said in a statement Monday.

Since the launch of phase two, the league has had a total of 2,900 tests conducted on 396 players taking part in activities. A total of 23 cases have been found — an increase of eight since the league’s last announcement on June 29th.

One player has tested positive for COVID-19 outside of the phase two protocol, the league said, bringing that total to 12.

All players who have tested positive are following protocols set in place by the CDC and Health Canada.

The NHL and its teams will not be identifying players who test positive without approval from the NHL or NHLPA.
