The Calgary Flames will be aiming to put the brakes on a two-game losing streak when they return home on Saturday to face the Edmonton Oilers as slim -125 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary produced mixed results during its recent five-game road trip, which it closed out with back-to-back losses to the Winnipeg Jets to remain stalled in sixth place in the North Division standings going into Saturday night’s matchup at Scotiabank Saddledome.

While the Flames’ recent junket featured their best performance so far this season, a 2-0 shutout victory over the Montreal Canadiens last Saturday, their offensive woes continued on the road. Calgary shooters tallied just three total goals while falling to defeat in the final two dates of its three-game series with the Jets, and potted just 11 total goals while going 2-3-0.
The team has fared only marginally better on home ice, thanks to a pair of wins over the Vancouver Canucks during the first week of the season. The Flames have scored more than three goals in just two of their 10 contests to date, overall scoring just 2.70 goals per game.
Head coach Geoff Ward’s attempt to shake things up by making Sam Bennett a healthy scratch on Thursday night failed to produce the desired result. The Flames failed to capitalize on a rare early lead on their way to a 4-1 loss to Winnipeg as -135 chalk at online betting sites, which also marked their third loss in six outings while set as betting favorites.
Bennett’s banishment to the press box comes in the wake of his recent demand to be traded, which has also been an unwelcome distraction for the team. The 24-year-old has failed to live up to his promise after being drafted fourth overall by Calgary in 2014, and with just 13 total points since the start of last season is set for a change of scenery.
While the Flames flicker, the Oilers aim to extend their first win streak of the season to four games when they hit the ice on Saturday as +105 underdogs. The Oilers are coming off a two-game sweep of the last-place Ottawa Senators, and have potted 16 total goals during their current tear. Edmonton also filled the net in its past visit to the Saddledome, an 8-3 victory last February. However, the Oilers have failed to tally consecutive wins over their provincial rivals while going 3-6-1 in their past 10 meetings.
