Prospect FGD: Back to School (7pm MT)

As the veterans prepare for fitness testing and medicals tomorrow, the youngest Calgary Flames hit the ice one last time during prospect camp. Their opponents on this occasion? A bit of an older crew, in the form of the University of Calgary Dinos.
Check out the action live at the Markin McPhail Centre at Winsport beginning at 7pm MT!

THE FLAMES

Per the Flames site, lines for tonight:
Mangiapane – Arnold – Klimchuk
Marchment – Karnaukhov – Marcotte
Lomberg – Baillie – Smith
Proulx – Burke – Carroll
Kylington – Morrison
Bell – Bruce
Andersson – Fram
Mason McDonald starts.
And AHL signee Louick Marcotte finally gets to suit up, leaving just Tomas Soustal as the long player not to play from the junior group. Poor kid. Meanwhile, suiting up for all four games thus far are Arnold, Carroll, Mangiapane and Karnaukhov.

THE DINOS

The UofC Dinos are an older bunch, with the team comprised almost exclusively of players that went through the Canadian Hockey League (mostly the WHL) and didn’t go pro. Chief among them is former Flames pick Coda Gordon, who joins the Dinos after a pretty good junior career with the Swift Current Broncos.
Other names you may know (if you followed junior hockey) on the Dinos roster: goaltender Curtis Honey (Brandon), defender Kolton Dixon (Saskatoon), forward Chance Lund (Swift Current), and former Hitmen forwards Mike Winther and Danny Gayle.
The Dinos are an older bunch of guys, full of players that know how to pace a game. Considering they’re just about to begin their season, they’d love to get some momentum on their side (and some bragging rights) by taking the Flames kids down a peg tonight.

ALSO TONIGHT

If you don’t want to hit a rink quite yet, head on down to The Pint (at the corner of 14th Street and 17th Avenue in the SW) tonight starting at 7pm for Puck Talks Live!
Our own Kent Wilson and Pat Steinberg are joined by such luminaries as Hockey Hall of Fame honouree Eric Duhatschek, Sportsnet’s Roger Millions, the Sun’s Eric Francis and Herald scribe George Johnson for an evening of hockey talk (and probably some beer and nachos if you bring some money). It promises to be a fun night. Heck, if we can get Duhatschek and Johnson telling stories from back in the day, it’ll be worth the price of admission. Get $5 off by using promo code “thepint.”
