The Calgary Flames beat the Dallas Stars by a 3-2 score in a shootout on Thursday night. Here are selected quotes and reactions following the game.

A back and forth affair

This game was a see-saw at times, with the Flames getting going early, getting in penalty trouble and then having to find their way back into the game from behind.
Head coach Bill Peters summed up the game rather nicely:
I liked the start of the game. I thought we started on time. Then we took a penalty and that gave them some momentum. Then in the second they were on the power play lots, it felt like lots. Then a four on four and we got out of rhythm there. And then big response. They score early in the third, then we respond. Clutch power play goal by Lindholm, obviously that was our first power play opportunity of the night. So that was a big turning point also and got us back into the game.

Big Save Dave does the usual

If you’ve read our wrap-up posts, you probably noticed that David Rittich has been named Red Warrior twice and been an honourable mention twice. They’ve only played four games and he’s been their best player (or close to it) in all of them.
Our pal Wes Gilbertson (of Postmedia) is on the road trip and snagged a pretty good quote that sums up Rittich’s confidence level right now.

Down two? Shorten the bench!

As per usual, Peters shortened the bench in the third period with the Flames down a couple goals.
Mark Jankowski played 1:26 (three shifts) and Michael Frolik 1:58 (three shifts). But Sam Bennett saw just 3:59 of ice time (and five shifts) and played less in the third than Milan Lucic or Tobias Rieder.

@James Neal conditional draft pick watch

The Flames receive Edmonton’s third round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft if James Neal scores 21 (or more) goals AND out-scores Milan Lucic by 10 (or more) goals.
  • James Neal goals: 7
  • Milan Lucic goals: 0
Neal has now equaled his goal output for the entire 2018-19 season.
Only 14 more Neal goals to go!
