With the bulk of their established players in China, the Calgary Flames have reportedly inked another player to a professional tryout to keep things likely in the domestic portion of main camp. Postmedia’s Kristen Anderson is reporting that the Flames have signed forward Logan Shaw to a PTO agreement.
Shaw turns 26 in early October and is originally from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He’s a big body at 6’4″ and 205 pounds who’s scored fairly consistently in several American Hockey League stops, but he’s primarily a crash-and-bang guy at the big league level. He’s played short stints with Florida, Anaheim and Montreal, but his 14 points last season were a career high. That probably says everything you need to know about him.
He’ll be an energy guy and help insulate the raw rookies from having to play too often, but he seems unlikely to factor into the NHL lineup given the other players the Flames have in camp.
