The National Hockey League’s trade deadline is in six short weeks and with the Pacific Division jam-packed, the @Calgary Flames are looking to improve their hockey club. In a recent edition of TSN’s Insider Trading, Pierre Lebrun reported that the Flames are interested in right shot forwards – and potentially Los Angeles’ @Tyler Toffoli.
You may remember they traded Michael Frolik to the Buffalo Sabres a few weeks back. That created some valuable cap space. They intend to use it. They hope to add a top six forward, a right hand shot. That’s the key criteria for the Calgary Flames. It makes me think there’s certainly some interest in Tyler Toffoli from the LA Kings, among other targets.
That the Flames are interested in a right shot, top six forwards isn’t a huge surprise. If you look at their roster construction, it’s pretty obvious. But previous reports from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman indicated that the Flames would prefer to make a trade for someone with term left on their deal.
But trading for a player with term left on their deal likely pushes the price tag upward, as does impressive offensive production. @Taylor Hall fetched New Jersey a first round pick, three decent prospects, and a conditional mid-round pick. But he’s two years removed from a Hart Trophy.
Toffoli? He’s never quite reached the heights that Hall has – he has 12 goals and 27 points this season for the Kings – but would likely be a much more economical option for the Flames as a depth option.
