Folks, all indications are that the Calgary Flames will be heading outdoors in 2019. But the Flames’ return to the great outdoors will be taking place in a fairly unique circumstances: October in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Friend of the site John Hoven (of Mayor’s Manor) has also tweeted about this undertaking, so it’s probably a decent bet. The most recent Heritage Classics have been held on Sundays, so it seems likely that Oct. 27, 2019 would be the date. The Flames hosted the 2011 Heritage Classic at McMahon Stadium, where they shut out the visiting Montreal Canadiens.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is scheduled to announce upcoming “major events” on New Year’s Day as part of the Winter Classic broadcast, so most likely we’ll get confirmation from the league at that time for the upcoming Heritage Classic and Winter Classic for the 2019-20 season.
