Report: Stockton signs two goalies

The AHL’s Stockton Heat have reportedly added a pair of depth goaltenders. According to a piece by The Athletic’s Darren Haynes, the Heat have signed goalies Andrew Shortridge and Matt Greenfield to two-way AHL/ECHL contracts.

Both players are returnees to the Flames organization from 2020-21.

Shortridge, 26, is originally from Anchorage, Alaska. He played three seasons with Quinnipiac University and has since been bouncing around minor-pro over the past few seasons. He’s played 18 games in the AHL (with an .884 save percentage) and 24 in the ECHL (with a .909 save percentage). He split 2020-21 between Stockton and Kansas City, spending two months with the Heat.

Greenfield, 26, is originally from Parkland, Florida. He spent four seasons with the University of Calgary – go Dinos! – after short stints with the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers, USHL’s Tri-City Storm, and the BCHL’s West Kelowna Warriors. He joined Kansas City last January and caught on, being named the ECHL’s top goalie of the week twice and winning 11 of his 25 appearances (with a .916 save percentage).

With the Flames slated to have Jacob Markstrom and Dan Vladar in the NHL and some combination (perhaps all three) of Dustin Wolf, Adam Werner and Tyler Parsons in Stockton, both Shortridge and Greenfield seem destined for the ECHL’s Mavericks. The organization has some depth across the three levels for the upcoming season.
