Rookie FGD: A prospect rematch in Calgary (6pm MT, Flames.com)

2 years agoJust 48 hours after the two teams clashed at Rogers Place, the rookie camp attendees of the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers will meet again in a pre-pre-season contest. This game means absolutely nothing, but at the very least it gives both club’s development staff and management a look-see at their youngest players in game-like conditions.
Like Saturday’s game in Edmonton, this game is closed to the public. The puck drops at 6 p.m. MT and you can catch it streamed on the Flames website or on the radio via Sportsnet 960 The Fan!

Dustin Wolf starts again for the Flames, presumably backed up by Ungar, who was the goalie scratched on Saturday. Cole Jordan seems likely to miss this game – he missed Saturday’s game for precautionary reasons – while Johannes Kinnvall, Mark Simpson and Reid Perepeluk look to be the other extras tonight.
The key word for the Young Flames tonight may be “consistency.” They were excellent in the first 20 minutes against Edmonton on Saturday, and then only somewhat decent the rest of the way. If they can put together a more coherent 60 minutes, they should have a good night at the ‘Dome.
Keep an eye on the remixed top two forward lines. Nikolaev slots in with a couple fast, creative players in Pelletier and Zavgorodniy, while Duehr gets a plum assignment with Zary and Pospisil after a good outing on Saturday at Rogers Place.

Konovalov gets the start after Rodrigue went the distance on Saturday night. The Oilers will be without Dmitri Samorukov, who left Saturday’s game after breaking his jaw bouncing off a Flames player on an attempted hit. Best wishes to him on a speedy recovery, as he’s one of Edmonton’s more interesting blueline prospects these days.
