The Calgary Flames’ top affiliate, the Stockton Heat, has announced a quartet of minor league signings. The team has signed defenders Terrance Amorosa and Zach Osburn and forwards Matthew Gaudreau and Mitch Hults to two-way AHL/ECHL contracts for the 2019-20 season.
These are as depth as depth signings go. Here’s a quick snapshot of each player:
  • LD Terrance Amorosa (24) is a left-shooting second year pro. He spent last season on an AHL deal with the Anaheim Ducks but played only 12 ECHL games with the Tulsa Oilers due to injury. he spent his collegiate years at Clarkson University.
  • LD Zach Osburn (22) is a left-shooting first year pro. He’s joining the Heat after four years at Michigan State University, where he was a fairly productive defender who was an honourable mention for his conference all-star team last season.
  • RW Matthew Gaudreau (24) is a left-shooting third year pro and Johnny Gaudreau’s younger brother. He’s spent his first two pro seasons on AHL deals with the New York Islanders, but spent the majority of his time with the ECHL’s Worcester Railers. He’s been a consistently productive ECHLer but hasn’t blown the doors off, which has contributed to him only seeing action in 17 AHL games over two seasons with the Bridgeport Ice Tigers. As with his older brother, he spent his college years with Boston College.
  • C Mitch Hults (24) is a left-shooting third year pro. He was signed to a two-year NHL deal coming out of college by the Anaheim Ducks but didn’t really find his footing, getting traded midway through to the Tampa Bay Lightning. He’s bounced around a bit, spending most of last season with the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears. He left college early after posting two pretty good seasons with Lake Superior State University, but that success hasn’t translated to the pro game.
In case you’re wondering: yes, all of these players will be at Flames training camp so there’s a good chance that the Gaudreau brothers will play a pre-season game together.
The Heat now have 10 players signed to AHL deals for the upcoming season: defenders Amorosa, Rob Hamilton, Zac Leslie, Osburn and Corey Schueneman, and forwards Alex Gallant, Gaudreau, Hults, Jeremy McKenna and Mason Morelli.
