The National Hockey League trade deadline is rapidly approaching. As the Calgary Flames prepare for the chaos that always comes on March 1, we felt it was prudent to revisit an old resource and update it.
Curious as to how long it’s been since the Flames made a swap with the other 29 NHL clubs? We dug into it and have a handy tracker for you.

The Rundown

Transactions in bold were made by current Flames general manager Brad Treliving.

Treliving’s credo over the past three seasons seems to be “If we don’t have plans for somebody, let’s get something back for them.” As a result, the Flames managed to flip a lot of assets from the Jay Feaster regime for draft picks and then either use those picks outright (taking Rasmus Andersson and Matthew Phillips, among others), use them to move up (they traded up to draft Oliver Kylington) or use them to solve other problems (acquiring Dougie Hamilton and Brian Elliott).
