Throwback Thursday: This Week in Hockey History

6 years agoSome teams’ fans may not like this week as much as others (sorry in advance, Leafsnation). This week looks at the highs and lows of NHL playoff history from May 11-17:
CanucksArmy
May 15, 1995: The Canucks score two shorthanded goals within 17 seconds to set the record for fastest shorthanded goals by one team in the playoffs. The previous record was held by Montreal at 24 seconds.
Flamesnation
May 12, 1986: Since I ripped open a more recent wound for Leafsnation this week, I figured I’d do it for Flamesnation too. Though, this one is a little less bitter for Flames fans considering they’d go on to win Game 7. The “Monday Night Miracle” took place against the Flames in Game 6 between Calgary and St. Louis when the Blues came back to win Game 6 after being down 4-1 to start the third. It’s considered one of the greatest comebacks in NHL playoff history.

May 15: 1993: Felix Potvin gets his first playoff shutout. The rookie goaltender turned away all 25 of St. Louis’ shots.
May 13, 2013: If you’re a Leafs fan, you may have stayed away from this week’s article because you know what’s coming. For anyone who doesn’t remember, the Bruins came back to win Game 7 after trailing the Leafs by three goals in the third period – the only team to ever do so in a Game 7. Sorry to have re-opened that wound, Leafsnation.

May 17, 1987: Wayne Gretzky nets a goal and an assist to become the first player to reach 200 NHL Playoff points.
May 16, 1985: Jari Kurri scores his third playoff hat trick (in the same post-season) and sets a record for the most hat tricks in the same post-season.
May 15, 1990: Petr Klima is the hero in what is still the longest game in Stanley Cup Final history when he scores at 15:13 in the third overtime to end the first game of the series against Boston.
May 14, 1985: Paul Coffey scores a goal and five assists to set the record for most points by a defenceman in a single playoff game.
