Training Camp Update – September 27th

For the first time in four days, Niklas Hagman was back on the practice ice at the Saddledome as the Calgary Flames continued 2010 training camp.  While he returned, both Rene Bourque and Raitis Ivanans were not on the ice for what the team called maintenance reasons.
Hagman skated on a line with Mikael Backlund and Jon Rheault on Monday morning, as Calgary gets ready for another preseason affair on Tuesday night at home to the Phoenix Coyotes.  Lines today at practice:
Alex Tanguay-Olli Jokinen-Jarome Iginla
Curtis Glencross-David Moss-Ales Kotalik
Greg Nemisz-Craig Conroy-Brett Sutter
Niklas Hagman-Mikael Backlund-Jon Rheault
Tim Jackman-Stefan Meyer-Cam Cunning
As we found out during practice, the Flames assigned goaltender Matt Keetley and defencemen John Negrin and Keith Seabrook to the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat.
Kent has his piece up on TJ Brodie right now, and it looks like he’s going to get as long a look as possible before the Flames make a decision on where he starts the season.  It looks like Brodie will play Tuesday at home to Phoenix, but Head Coach Brent Sutter says the plan is not to use him Wednesday in Saskatoon.  A fairly simple reasoning for that: Sutter said they know what Brodie is about, and they don’t have to play him on back to back nights to get more of a handle.  The buzz Monday at the Saddledome was all about #66 and how he might be able to crack this lineup.
I know stories have come out today regarding the Flames "announcing" Matt Stajan and Daymond Langkow will be out indefinetely, however, it’s not new news, it’s week old news.  The Flames sent out an injury report last week with the exact same information regarding those two, so nothing has changed in terms of a timetable.
Check back with FlamesNation on Tuesday to get an update on lines and lineups for Calgary’s home preseason game against the Phoenix Coyotes.
