Troy Brouwer leaves game with upper-body injury

The Calgary Flames have enjoyed a relatively injury-free stretch of hockey since Johnny Gaudreau, Lance Bouma and Kris Versteeg have recovered from their various maladies. Unfortunately, it looks like that stretch may be coming to an abrupt end.
Brouwer blocked an innocuous-looking dump-in shot from teammate Kris Versteeg at the tail end of the first period. He appeared to take the shot in his hands, as he dropped his stick and skated to the bench without recovering it. He didn’t come back out to the Flames bench to start the second period.
The Flames’ biggest (and most expensive) acquisition of the summer, Brouwer has been a fixture on the Flames’ top nine, power play and penalty kill. Unfortunately, his puck possession and offensive numbers haven’t quite matched up to his $4.5 million cap hit. He has 17 points (and a 43.9% score-adjusted Corsi For) in 35 games so far this season.
